Two tyre makers look to Poland for investments
Warsaw--Two tyre makers are studying whether Poland is the right place for investments, according to the Polish News Bulletin (PNB). In North-eastern Poland, Michelin is close to a decision on the location of a distribution and logistics centre employing 500. PNB says the Polish authorities have extended a special economic zone to include Michelin's proposed site, but Michelin still is looking at alternative locations, notably Hungary.
In a separate story, PNB says Korean tyre maker Hankook is looking for locations for a tyre manufacturing factory in the Central European region. The alternatives are Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Wroclaw and Gorzow Wielkopolski have been mentioned as possible short-list sites for the investment. PNB suggests the plant might represent as much as €700 million in investments and bring 2000 jobs. It says Hankook expects to issue a shortlist of locations before the end of January
