Japanese group unveils new Potenza GEN4 range with 65% sustainable materials
Tokyo – Bridgestone has unveiled its new Potenza GEN4 tires ahead of becoming sole tire supplier to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship from the 2026/27 season, which starts in January 2027.
Developed for the new GEN4 race car, the tires feature a 65% allocation of recycled and renewable materials, said Bridgestone 1 Oct.
The sustainable materials include carbon black derived from end-of-life tire pyrolysis oil and silica produced from rice husks.
Bridgestone said the natural rubber in the tire is sourced through “supply chains that have undergone due diligence by Bridgestone, comply with the GPSNR7 assurance system, and are verified by a third party.”
The tire maker said it had developed two products: the Potenza GEN4 for general race conditions and the Potenza GEN4 for Typhoon Tire, designed to provide “excellent grip performance” in heavy rain.
The tires have been engineered for a GEN4 car capable of accelerating from zero to 100km/h in 1.8 seconds, reaching 335km/h and delivering 600kW of peak power through permanent active all-wheel drive.
Bridgestone said the technology provides “high grip to maximise vehicle performance”, adaptability across different road and weather conditions and durability to maintain performance throughout races.
With the Formula E entry, Bridgestone “will further evolve the balance of performance and sustainability and pioneer a new future for mobility,” said Yasuhiro Morita, global CEO.
