Michelin's asphalt rally tire gets off to good start
ERJ staff report (BC)
Clermont Ferrand, France – Michelin's Pilot Sport R asphalt rally tire had a successful launch at the Geko Ypres Rally, held from 27-29 June, when driver Freddy Loix claimed a debut victory with the new tire.
From the Ypres event of the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) onwards, a quota of 20 tires (plus four for the “shakedown” stage) are being allocated to each team. For the first time in the ERC, the shakedown will act as a qualifying session, and tire-cutting was banned on the Belgian event.
Michelin says that its range of four new Pilot Sport R tires benefit from an asymmetric tread pattern and a “more versatile” compound, designed to perform well in both wet and dry conditions.
