Yokohama Rubber supports beekeeping for sustainable livelihood in China
ERJ staff report (BC)
Tokyo – The Chinese holding company of Yokohama Rubber Co. is promoting beekeeping, among other agricultural development initiatives, in Heyuan, an ethnic minority village in the Laojun Mountain Nature Reserve in Lijiang, Yunnan Province, China.
The initiatives are part of a project for “sustainable growth and ecological preservation” in the Heyuan community conducted by a Chinese environmental NGO, the Beijing SanSheng Environment and Development Research Institute.
Yokohama points to tourism as the main economic driver in the Lijiang region, at the same time as deforestation, poaching and other harmful activities are threatening the natural ecosystem.
The project aims to help establish an economic regime in which villagers can earn a living while preserving the ecosystem.
