Bridgestone's winter tire meets stricter stud requirements
ERJ staff report (BC)
Tokyo – Bridgestone’s new Blizzak Spike-01 is a studded winter tire for passenger cars and 4x4s, designed for extreme Nordic winter conditions complying with increasingly strict regulations on studs.
The tire’s stud incorporates a square-shouldered, round pin with a cross-edge designed to maximise edge and scratch effect while minimising road wear and associated dust pollution.
Bridgestone claims that preliminary internal tests demonstrate a multi-directional biting effect on ice and snow, retained better over the life of the stud and tire than with the Blizzak Spike-01’s predecessor.
Ice traction is “vastly improved” over the previous tire, says the company.
