The two companies have been developing an RFID technology, called ‘the plug’, for two years, according to the statement issued 19 April.
The technology, they said, can “uniquely identify tires and track them from manufacturing, vulcanisation, warehousing, shipping and at customer locations."
Under the announced deal, Camso will engage in a “multi-year partnership” to deliver commercial, mass-production of the plug and other RFID technologies currently under development.
“The ability to use integrated RFID solutions in the tire manufacturing process enables visibility and transparency throughout a tire’s lifecycle,” said George Hoffman, CEO and chairman of FineLine Technologies
This, he added “opens the gateway to Industry 4.0 development and the “Internet of Things” [and] creates the opportunity for tire manufacturers to explore potential new business models with their customers.”
For Camso, vice president and general manager - material handling Erick Bellefleur said: “The monitoring of tire usage throughout the entire life cycle, in the application, offers new avenues to better understand and lower fleet operating costs.”
