San Luis Potosí, Mexico – ContiTech has opened a greenfield production facility in San Luis Potosí, Mexico to produce air induction systems for the local markets in North and South America.

The new plant, said ContiTech, will strengthen its market position as one of the world’s largest manufacturer of line systems for turbochargers.

In a written statement to ERJ, the company confirmed that the facility, at this stage, produces 25,000 pieces per week.

ContiTech did not disclose the financial size of the investment.

“Together with our existing sites in the region, we now have an excellent setup to serve our customer base with superior mobile fluid handling solutions,” said Stefan Hoheisel, head of the air induction systems segment of ContiTech Mobile Fluid Systems.

According to the German automotive and technology supplier, innovative air induction systems for turbochargers will be produced at the plant. The products are designed to increase engine efficiency, and reduce fuel consumption.

The Mexican site features a “fully-automated” 3D blow-moulding production process, which according to ContiTech offers high efficiency and quality.

ContiTech currently runs eight production facilities in Mexico producing various products including hoses, powertrains, air-conditioning systems, belts and airsprings.
