German group also announces technology and capacity upgrades at other Indian facilities
Chennai, India – German rubber parts supplier SaarGummi has expanded its manufacturing base in India with the opening of a new production facility operated by local subsidiary GoldSeal SaarGummi (GSSG) in Chennai.
The 70,000 sq ft unit was officially inaugurated 24 Sept and marks an important step in GSSG’s transition “from traditional EPDM rubber sealing solutions towards advanced thermoplastic technologies,” said SaarGummi in a 14 Oct social media post.
The Chennai plant, it said, is equipped with TPV extrusion and moulding technologies and will initially manufacture ‘glass run channels’ using 4K extrusion technology.
It will also produce sunroof seals incorporating PE splicing technology.
According to SaarGummi, the technology makes GSSG “one of the few sealing suppliers in India offering PE splicing technology for the domestic automotive market.”
The Chennai opening is also part of GSSG’s wider development in India, with further technology and capacity upgrades underway at the Daman and Sanand facilities.
Together, SaarGummi said, the expansion initiatives will enable GSSG to offer “an increasingly broad portfolio of advanced sealing solutions to automotive customers in India and international markets.”
Formed in 1997, GSSG is a joint venture between SaarGummi and India’s Gold Seal Engineering Products Pvt Ltd.
In addition to the Chennai facility, the JV also operates three other factories in Mumbai, Daman, and Sanand, Ahmedabad, in India.
Among other products, the factories produce sealing profiles and weatherstrips for the automotive industry.
