Stoke-on-Trent, UK – Michelin Tyre has opened a new 53,500-square-metre European distribution centre (EDC) at its UK headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent, and work is underway for new facilities at the site.
In a 7 July statement, the French tire maker said the €11-million investment in the EDC had helped create 100 logistics and customer service jobs over the last 12 months.
The facility has capacity to store and deliver more than 5 million tire a year.
As well as handling Michelin tires produced in the UK, the EDC will host a national distribution centre for sister company ATS Euromaster.
Work has also started on an additional 12,000-square-metre warehouse for Michelin’s truck retread factory on the same site. This unit is expected to be completed end of the year.
The new facilities are part of a €28-million investment programme by Michelin over the last five years. This, said the company, has increased productivity at the site by 35%.
According to the French tire-maker, environmental performance has also improved as a result of the investments, with VOC solvent consumption down 90% over the period.
