ERJ staff report (BC)
Greenville, South Carolina – Michelin Aircraft Tire has announced it will supply Air X radial tires fitment for Dassault's newest large-cabin long range business jet, the Falcon 5X.
The company cites the following advantages for the near zero growth (NZG) technology which the Air X incorporates:
· Up to 50 percent more resistance to foreign object damage (FOD), with an optimised tread design for cut resistance and an extra strong carcass to restrict tire growth, thereby improving safety and increasing tread life.
· Up to a 40 percent reduction in weight compared with a cross-ply tire, which is claimed to translate into significant fuel savings for airlines.
· Up to a 50 percent increase in the rated number of landings compared with a cross-ply tire, resulting in less maintenance downtime for aircraft manufacturers.
