Kuczkowski wins Charles Goodyear Medal
ERJ staff report (R&PN)
Milwaukee, Wisconsin -- Joseph A Kuczkowski, noted for his work in the elucidation and explanation of antioxidant and antiozonant function and how these stabilising materials interact with rubber polymers, has been named the 2011 Charles Goodyear Medalist.
Kuczkowski, retired from Goodyear, was announced as the winner of the ACS Rubber Division's top technical award during the association's fall meeting in Milwaukee, Oct. 12-14. Five others also won division technical awards: P.S. Ravishankar, ExxonMobil Chemical Co., Melvin Mooney Award; Avraam I. Isayev, University of Akron, George S. Whitby Award; Alfred J. Crosby, University of Massachusetts, Sparks-Thomas Award; and Nikos Hadjichristidis, Chemistry of Thermoplastic Elastomers Award.
Kuczkowski's fundamental studies resulted in the preparation and commercialisation of several antioxidant systems and improvement in the stability of the polymers that contain them, the division said.
He and the other award winners will receive their honors next spring at the division meeting in Akron.
