Australian car may get runflat tyres as no-cost option
ERJ staff report (DS)
Melbourne, Australia -- GM's Australian subsidiary Holden Ltd is thinking about using runflat tyres as a no-cost option on its Commodore model, according to local press reports. A spokesman for Holden said the story is premature: this is just one option currently being discussed internally.
The article on Drive.com.au quoted General Motors Holden chairman and managing director Mark Reuss saying, [We'll] make it a free option and tell the customer how much fuel they're going to save by not carrying it around in the city. As long as we option it at no cost then who cares? If [a spare tyre] is what you want and you've got to have it then great, but don't penalise everybody [by adding weight]."
