Project to add new space, expanded tooling and automation capabilities at Minnesota centre
Delano, Minnesota – Trelleborg Medical Solutions has broken ground on an expansion and remodelling project at its innovation centre in Delano, aimed at increasing capacity and shortening development cycles.
The project will expand the footprint of the US site to support “additional projects” and help “accelerate the design and development cycle for customers,” the company said in a 27 May statement.
The expansion includes construction of 4,180 sq. m. of new space, including a visitor centre, alongside the remodelling and expansion of the tool shop to about 10,500 square feet in total.
Trelleborg said the project will also add additional “high-end machining and injection moulding” as well as expanded space for the site’s automation and vision laboratory.
Kevin Ehlert, president of the medical device solutions Americas business unit, said “speed to market and high quality, reliable supply are critical factors in our customer partnerships.”
This investment, he said, enables Trelleborg to deliver on all aspects and provide “an exceptional experience” to customers from early stage prototyping to high-volume commercialisation all under one roof.
The new visitor centre will serve as “a collaborative, high-tech meeting area where customers can brainstorm on project ideas alongside our experts,” explained Jeff Westom, director of the innovation centre.
The extra Swiss machining, injection moulding and tool-making infrastructure, he said, will “enhance our in-house capabilities to provide the highest quality components fast without relying on outside shops.”
“The increased automation lab also provides scalability to support future projects and dedicated space for developing vision inspection and automation systems,” he said.
The expansion and relocation project is scheduled for completion in spring 2027.
