Dryflex Circular materials contain over 50% recycled content, meet UL flammability requirements
Malmö, Sweden – Hexpol has developed thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) compounds containing more than 50% recycled material for Bosch Professional power tools.
The materials, part of Hexpol's Dryflex Circular range, will be used in grips and housings for power tools designed for professional and heavy-duty applications, the Swedish polymer group announced 6 Oct.
Developed in collaboration with Bosch, the compounds incorporate post-industrial and post-consumer recyclates and have received 'UL certification' for flammability and safety requirements.
According to Hexpol, the compounds have also been developed to resist material migration and hand perspiration, while providing a secure grip and suitable surface finish.
The materials can be overmoulded onto thermoplastic substrates, including polypropylene and glass-filled polyamide (PA66).
"Balancing mechanical demands, strict flammability and high levels of recycled content made this an interesting material development," said Christian Berg, research and development manager at Hexpol TPE GmbH.
The TPE materials, said Berg, deliver the durability and high quality required for by Bosch.
