First phase of project to produce 120ktpa of high-performance SSBR in Zhejiang province
Shanghai, China – China's Jiahua Energy Chemical Industry has advanced its high-performance synthetic rubber project in Zhejiang province with a construction planning public notice issued earlier this month.
The project, officially unveiled late last year, is valued at Yuan1.25 billion (€160 million) and will have an overall capacity to produce 240 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of high-performance synthetic rubber.
According to the project details released on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in November 2025, the investment in Haiyan economic development zone in Jiaxing will involve two phases, each rated at 120ktpa.
In the first phase, the group aims to build two 60ktpa solution styrene-butadiene rubber (SSBR) continuous production lines, alongside downstream processing units, waste treatment facilities, storage tanks and supporting utility infrastructure.
The project will also include construction of a 2.6-km butadiene pipeline connected to Sanjiang Chemical’s public pipe rack system to secure raw material supply.
The environmental impact assessment for the project received approval from the Jiaxing Ecology and Environment Bureau in October 2025.
Once remaining safety and energy assessments are completed, the construction period is estimated at 18 months, with production scheduled to begin in 2027.
The facility will primarily produce SSBR grades for high-performance tire applications, while also allowing future production of specialty rubber materials including low-cis rubber and thermoplastic styrene-butadiene rubber.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate annual revenue of around Yuan1.78 billion.
