Getzner opens new railway elastomer products plant in India

Austrian vibration isolation supplier also adding a new factory at headquarters in Vorarlberg
Baramati, India – Austrian vibration isolation specialist Getzner Werkstoffe has expanded its international footprint with the opening of a new production facility in Baramati, in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.
The plant strengthens the group’s customer proximity in the rail and transit sector, shortens delivery routes, and creates additional capacity for the Indian market, said Getzner in a 2 April.
The Austrian supplier said it has been present in the Indian market “for many years” but the new 4,189 sq.m. was “the next step” in expanding its activities in the “strategically important growth region.”
“Now, Getzner is creating the conditions to manufacture railway products directly on-site for the Indian market,” it added.
In a statement to ERJ, Getner said it will be producing polyurethane elastomers the railway applications Baramati.
Products include baseplate pads: “Highly-elastic” pads that are used on slab-track systems to ensure the necessary elasticity.
According to Getzner’s website, the pads are placed between the rib plate and the concrete slab and help maintain the load-distribution qualities of the rail and reduce vibrations.
Getzner said its systems are already used in rail operations in India, including in the urban rail network of the Agra Metro in northern India.
The new factory in India is the supplier’s second production site in Asia, in addition to an existing plant in Kunshan, China.
Getzner added that it also investing in capacity expansion at its headquarters in Vorarlberg: A second plant is being built in Nueziders, creating additional capacity in the region.
