Washington – Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas is recalling 36,919 tires produced earlier this year at its manufacturing plant in White, Georgia, due to possible tread separation defect.
In a 28 Oct notice, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the affected tires may have been contaminated during production, which could reduce adhesion and cause the tread to separate.
“Due to an isolated incident in the belt manufacturing process, the affected tires may have contamination of the belt surface, leading to reduced adhesion between the belts and surrounding components,” it said.
The tires were manufactured between 23 and 24 Jan this year and the agency estimates that 1% of the recalled amount to be affected by the contamination.
Models covered by the recall include Open Country A/T III, Open Country R/T Trail, Open Country M/T, Open Country H/T II, Crosstek 2, Dura Grappler Highway Terrain, Exo Grappler AWT, Mud Grappler Extreme Terrain, Recon Grappler A/T, Ridge Grappler, Terra Grappler G3 A/T, and Trailer Grappler M/T tires.
