Equipment for plant being built under licence of pyrolysis company Scandinavian Environmental Systems
Rovereto, Italy – Michelin Group has selected Italian machinery maker Salvadori Srl to supply equipment to process scrap earthmover tires at its new recycling plant in Antofagasta region, Chile.
The plant, being built under the licence of pyrolysis company Scandinavian Environmental Systems, aims to recycle 30 kilotonnes per annum of tires and is scheduled for operation in 2023.
Under the deal, Salvadori will supply a “fully integrated recycling and processing plant” to Michelin, said Luca Olcese, Salvadori general manager in a 22 Nov statement.
Michelin's €25-million plant is designed to process large-sized earthmoving machinery tires, recycling them on-site.
Salvadori will supply a "cutting station" comprising machinery to separate the sides of the tread, equipment to remove the bead or the steel core that forms the structure of the tire, and cutting machines to shred the waste rubber.
The materials will then go through a pyrolysis “transformation process” to recover carbon black, pyrolysis oil and gas from the end-of-life tires.
Salvadori said its machines have been designed and developed with Michelin at the company's Trentino Sviluppo technological hub in Rovereto.
