Waste tire pyrolysis company set to start official process to acquire environmental permit
Stockholm – Swedish waste tire pyrolysis company Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) has selected the location for establishing a previously announced recycling plant in Uddevalla, Sweden.
The company intends to formally submit the application on 19 Nov, for building the plant in one of the two industrial sites in Lillesjö, said Enviro in a 17 Nov statement.
The recycler said the application will include the construction of a building with an initial annual recycling capacity of 30 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of tire material.
Enviro, however, has not finalised the decision to establish the new plant, stating that the final decision will dependent on several factors, such as securing access to end-of-life tires (ELTs) and agreements covering deliveries of recovered materials.
If finalised, the company expects the new facility to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2023.
The long-term plan for the facility in Uddevalla is to process up to 60ktpa of waste tires, which Enviro says will amount to nearly half of Sweden’s total annual ELT volume.
The project will be in addition to Enviro’s existing plant in Åsensbruk, Mellerud, which currently recycles 15ktpa of waste tires.
The move is part of Enviro's 'aggressive expansion plan' which was announced on 20 May.
As part of the plan, the Swedish recycler aims to establish up to four new facilities per year to ultimately build 30 plants by 2030. West Sweden and Central Europe have been identified as initial priority markets.
Enviro has developed a patented technology to recover carbon black, oil and steel from end-of-life vehicle tires.
