DuPont to close Texas Hypalon plant
ERJ staff report (DS)
Wilmington Delaware -- DuPont Performance Elastomers is to close a plant in Beaumont, Texas. The company lists only one plant in that area, making Hypalon, a chlorosulphonated polyethylene.Â
DuPont does not list any other production sites for Hypalon.
DuPont announced on 21 April that it would undergo a substantial restructuring in the face of the recession. Yesterday it announced limited details of its plans. Although there was no information on the company website, and no-one was available to clarify the company position, the local newspapers in Beaumont Texas gave detailed plans for the closure of the plant.
They quoted a corporate statement, which reportedly said, "DuPont Performance Elastomer's Beaumont Plant will cease operation on June 30, 2009. Decommissioning work at the site will continue through August of this year followed by an extended period of dismantlement."Â
