Daetwyler closes US plant, moves operations to Mexico

Marion, South Carolina -- Datwyler Rubber and Plastics is closing its rubber product operations in South Carolina from October this year. Production will be moved to a new plant in Mexico. The company unofficially confirmed a local press report, but the company's official spokesperson had not responded by the  time this story went to press.
The plant produces moulded, extruded, and lathe-cut mechanical rubber goods, aimed mainly at the engineering and electronics businesses.
A year ago, Daetwyler announced it was building a new plant in Mexico, in Guanajuato state,which has 5000 m2s of production space. The company said at the time, "more and more American factories of OEM carmakers and their suppliers are moving to Mexico, to utilise the advantages Mexico offers as a low-cost country known for its strong industrial development. "
