ERJ staff report (RD)
Cary, North Carolina - Lord Corp., a major manufacturer of adhesives and primers for the rubber-to-metal industry, has moved into its new production facility in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, completing the first phase of its expansion plans, the company said 18 May.
The 6037-sq.m. facility has been built to meet growing demand of Lord products, particularly the Chemlok Adhesives product line, said China regional director, ChengJi Peng. The new plant will have up to three times more capacity than Lord's existing facility in Zhang Jiang, Shanghai, as well as process improvements such as advanced foam fire suppression system with centralised computer control and a pollution prevention system, the company added.
The plant consists of a 600-sq.m. technical centre, 2137-sq.m. of manufacturing space, 1500-sq.m. of warehouse space and 1800-sq.m. of office space. The manufacturing and warehouse space, the company said, can be expanded by 2231-sq.m.
Capcity will be expanded by around 6000-8000 tons, the company said, adding that production of the Chemlok adhesives is already online and underway.
“Rapid growth in the China market caused us to reach our capacity at our first plant,†said David Siporin, vice president, Asia-Pacific. “Now with more than three times the capacity, we expect this facility to serve the growing needs of the China domestic market and to serve other Asia-Pacific customers as well.â€
