EPA & BRC Rubber reach agreement on clean air violations
ERJ staff report (RD)
Chicago, Illinois - The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 has reached an agreement with BRC Rubber and Plastics Inc. concerning alleged clean-air violations at BRC's production plant at St. Montpelier, Indiana, the EPA said 19 May.
It was alleged that the BRC automotive parts and coating plant emitted excessive amounts of organic hazardous air pollutants in violation of federal regulations, and its state operating permit, the statement said.
The agreement will see BRC pay an $18 017 (Euro 13 195 million) penalty and undertake an environmental project costing $82 450 to protect public health and the environment by reducing volatile organic compounds (VOC) and hazardous air pollutant emissions.
BRC will retrofit two of its coating lines to improve adhesive transfer efficiency and operate the equipment for at least five years, the statement added.
