Unique tire wear scanner puts UK firm on road to success
ERJ staff report (TP)
Bicester, UK − Technology which helps identify problem tires has been launched by a British company in Bicester, Oxfordshire, reported The Buckingham Advertiser.
Sigmavision Ltd has created TreadReader, securing a multi-million pound contract with Hunter Engineering Company, a garage equipment manufacturer in the USA.
TreadReader is an automatic tire inspection system that identifies badly worn or unevenly worn tires that need replacing and helps early detection of wheel misalignment that accelerates tire wear.
The TreadReader tire measurement system is a drive over ramp that generates a 3D laser scan of each tire on a vehicle. The 3D scans are then displayed together with tread depths measured across the width of the tire.
Dr Andrew Pryce, Sigmavision’s MD, said: “We are delighted to be working with Hunter who have integrated our measurement system into their equipment to deliver a significant improvement to workshop services and road safety on a global scale. Having invested the last five years developing this technology we now look forward to growing the business rapidly and providing a boost to the local economy and employment.”
