Malaysia's NR on the rise, at last

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia's production of NR in March was up by over 48 percent compared with March 2009. The country produced produced 70,318 tonnes of natural rubber (NR), decreasing by 13.2 percent (-10,713 tonnes) compared to the previous month.
Exports also rose strongly. Malaysia exported 92,024 tonnes in March 2010, up by 88.6 percent on the year-ago figure and up by 41 percent on the previous month.
IMports also rose, but much more modestly. A total of 52,877 tonnes of NR was imported in March 2010, an increase of 11.0 percent year-on-year and up by 5 percent on the previous month.
Domestic consumption of NR rose by 11.4 percent to 42,455 tonnes in March 2010 when compared to the previous month. A similar pattern was also registered for year-on-year comparison where an increase of 13.1 percent was recorded.
Rubber prices continued to strengthen in March 2010. The average monthly price for latex concentrate rose 4.6 percent to achieve 734.39sen, when compared to February 2010. Year-on-year price comparison showed a sharp gain of 67.7 percent.
