Bridgestone US to finance science centre for students

Prescott, Arkansas -- Bridgestone Americas' Firestone Building Products Co. LLC subsidiary has broken ground on the Firestone Science Center, a facility used to educate Prescott-area elementary school students in various areas of science.

The facility, an idea developed through a partnership between the company's plant in Prescott and Hyacinth Deon, superintendent of the Prescott School District, will allow students to “explore all facets of scientific discovery,” the company said, including biology, physics, chemistry and other areas of research.

Firestone Building Products made a financial pledge of $100,000-funding from the Bridgestone Americas Trust Fund that will be spread over a five-year span-to go toward the science center. Additional support has been secured by US Congressman Mike Ross, D-Ark., through various stimulus funds, the company said.

Along with its long-term financial commitment, the company said it will contribute materials to be used in the construction of the facility.
