India cuts restrictions on radial tyre imports
ERJ staff report (DS)
New Delhi -- India's Directorate General of Foreign Trade has removed radial tyres from the list of restricted items for import. Radials were placed on the list in November 2008.
The government has become concerned over the price increases imposed by domestic manufacturers, and how these increases have affected domestic inflation figures. Furthermore, domestic truck makers have complained to the government over shortages of radial truck tyres, suggesting that Indian suppliers have deliberately been restricting production in order to increase prices.
India's tyre manufacturers' Association ATMA has criticised the move.
