UK tyre industry issues leaflets on tyre disposal
ERJ staff report (DS)
London -- The UK-based Tyre Industry Federation has issued a range of point of sale materials to help tyre dealers and garages explain to customers why they are charged a recycling fee for the disposal of tyres removed from their vehicle.
“Many motorists do not understand the complex operations and infrastructure that is required to dispose of used tyres in a safe, legal and environmentally sound manner,†explains Peter Taylor OBE, secretary general, Tyre Recovery Association. “Consequently, many dealers face resentment from customers when they have to pay a recycling fee. These materials will help the trade explain to customers why the charge is levied, the processes involved and the many uses that the industry has devised for its waste materials.â€
The first poster to be made available taps into the current World Cup frenzy and explains how 42,000 used tyres are recycled into an Astroturf football pitch. Dealers wishing to get copies of the materials can do so by contacting the Tyre Recovery Association (below).
