European car production picks up - ACEA

Brussels -- Vehicle production in Europe is picking up, compared to the low levels of 2009, according to ACEA, the federation of European vehicle makers.
In ACEA's annual report, published last week, the group says Germany remains Europe's powerhouse in terms of car production, making 1.4 million cars in the first quarter of 2010, France and Spain each produced under 600 000 units.
In the first quarter, vehicle production in the UK recovered most strongly, growing by 73 percent over the first quarter in 2009. German production grew by 33 percent.
