Conti's handcrafted tyres on road at Tour de France

Hanover, Germany -- Continental is supplying handmade high-tech tyres to six of the cycling teams competing at this year's Tour de France, a 13 July company statement said.
For the daily stages of the race, Continental has supplied the teams with its Competition 22 pro limited tubular tyres, whilst in time trial stages Conti's Podium 22 pro limited are used.
The hand-crafted tyres, made at Conti's plant in Korbach, Germany, were supplied to the teams from Milram, HTC-Columbia, Caisse d'Epargne, Quick Step, Omega Pharma-Lotto and BMC Racing trust Continental.
“Modern all-round tyres such as the TopContact for town trekking are characterised, for instance by their excellent rolling performance, low rolling resistance and high resistance to punctures,†said Fred Schierenbeck, head of Continental Reifen Deutschland GmbH. “The compounding technology and puncture protection materials used here were first tested successfully in professional cycling,†he said explaining the benefits the technology could provide for amateur riders.
