Chinese tyre makers to slow production over New Year as NR prices bite - report
ERJ staff report (DS)
Beijing - Chinese tyre makers are to limit production over the Spring Festival Holiday in early February, according to local news reports. China Economic.net said China's top seven tyre makers would cease production for two weeks during the national holiday period, supplying orders from inventory.
The report added that high natural rubber prices have also affected tyre makers' profitability, with profits down by over a third last year, and some companies expecting to make losses this quarter, due to high raw material costs.
The report quoted Cai Weimin, secretary-general of a tyre branch of CRIA, saying, "the industry now faces unprecedented difficulties and called for government interference. He also hopes the government can lower import taxes and urge rubber producers to seek for ways to normalise the situation to ensure a smooth development of the industry."
