Manufacturer to consolidate thermoplastic and silicone manufacturing under one roof
Carpinteria, California – Freudenberg Medical LLC is set to close its production plant in Carpinteria by the end of June as part of a move to consolidate its California operations under one roof.
In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filing dated 22 April, the company notified California authorities of plans for a permanent workforce reduction affecting up to 80 employees at its Carpinteria facility.
According to the notice, the employment separations are scheduled to begin on or around 24 June.
The plant closure follows an announcement late last year by the Carpinteria-headquartered manufacturer disclosing plans to consolidate its ‘California thermoplastic and silicone manufacturing operations under one roof.’
The move, it said, will help better serve customers by consolidating technology and engineering resources into one strategic location near Los Angeles.
As part of the process, all moulding and extrusion equipment from the facility in Carpinteria will be transferred to the larger manufacturing operation located in Baldwin Park, California.??
“This strategic move creates a more agile manufacturing environment, bringing together engineering, quality, and material experts at one single location in California,” said the company.
This, it added, will enhance collaboration, responsiveness, and the ability to scale quickly from development through commercialisation.??
The unified site will serve as “a center of excellence” for precision moulding and extrusion.
The site will feature advanced manufacturing technologies such as micro moulding and micro extrusion for miniaturised medical components; Bi-component moulding; and AI-powered factory layout planning for optimised workstations and VR-based operator training.?
