NR prices ease slightly overnight
ERJ staff report (DS)
London -- NR prices eased slightly in Tokyo and elsewhere today, although experts predicted further rises during the week.
A senior source within Groupe Michelin yesterday told ERJ that Michelin has the brand strength and the quality to increase tyre prices to compensate for higher raw material costs, so in principle, higher NR prices are not a problem for the business, however, the speed of the increases in recent months had caused some temporary problems.
In Tokyo, Tocom's benchmark six-month price eased somewhat, to close at Yen 455.6 ($5.50 per kilo) during afternoon trading on 18 January.
In Singapore short-dated RSS3 saw highs around $5.56/kg on Tuesday, down by about 2 cents from Monday and then eased further to close at $5.54, while short-dated TSR20 also fell to a low of $5.32/kg before closing around $5.35
Indian prices on the NMCE (National Multi-Commodity Exchange) remained level, just touching a high of Rs 249.5 ($5.47)/kg for May delivery.
Shanghai prices, usually the world's highest, also eased to around Yuan 38.3 ($5.80) per kilo for March deliveries.
