Yokohama says no casualties from Tohoku earthquake and tsunami

Tokyo - Yokohama Rubber Co has said its staff suffered no casualties from the recent Japanese earthquake and consequent tsunami.
The company has six factories in the northern region (Kanto area) of Japan: Mishima Plant, Hiratsuka Factory, Hiratsuka-Higashi Plant, Hamatite (Nakahara) Plant, Ibaraki Plant, and Nagano Plant.
It said there were no casualties. Following the earthquake, and according to routine procedures, all these factories were shutdown and subjected to a routine inspection. With the exception of the Ibaraki plant, no serious damage was found and partial production commenced before the end of the working day (local time) on Monday. Plans are now under development for a full return to production.
At the Ibaraki plant some damage was observed and the company is seeking ways to restore the damage and to ensure effective safety and a safe return to operations, Production is currently suspended at the plant.
