Bridgestone to prioritise truck tyres in 'quake recovery plan

Tokyo - Bridgestone has outlined its recovery plan for tyre, steelcord and other plants in Northern Japan

The company said that while none of the damage is critical, some machinery and facilities did suffer in the original earthquake and in some of the after-shocks.

Bridgestone said it will prioritise truck and bus radial tyres as these products will be needed on vehicles used in the disaster recovery effort.

Bridgestone said Japan is introducing rolling blackouts in the region to conserve power and that Bridgestone is committed to cooperate with this policy, while using good planning to minimise the impact of each blackout.

As a result, Bridgestone expects production at Tochigi and Nasu factories to restart on Wednesday March 16, with deliveries beginning again from Friday 18 March, subject to further planning efforts.

The Tokyo tyre plant should begin production today (15 March) and deliveries expected from tomorrow (16 March)

Bridgestone's industrial products plant in Yokohama has already re-started and full production will resume as soon as reliable power is available.

The Steelcord plant in Kuroiso is due to restart on Wednesday 16th March, with deliveries beginning almost immediately.
