Kama begins pilot production of all-terrain vehicle tires

Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan – Russian tire maker Kama Tires has started the pilot production of all-terrain vehicle (ATV) tires at its Nizhnekamskshina manufacturing plant.

Kama Quadro ATM, made in standard size 25x8-12, was developed by Kama’s R&D centre, using ‘the latest digital technologies,” said parent company Tatneft in a 20 Oct statement. 

“The tread pattern of the tire is specially designed for off-road driving and provides excellent mud and snow flotation and ease of use in the field,” added the statement.

According to Tatneft, simulation technology was employed extensively for the development of the tire and the ‘digital twin’ of the product went through ‘numerous tests’ before a prototype was produced.

Before going into large-scale production, Tatneft said the prototype must complete a programme of “bench and road tests” for reliability. 

The first batch of tires will go to Tatneft’s subdivisions that operate off-road special vehicles for pilot testing.

There are currently nine tire sizes in development for the Quadro ATM range with diameters ranging from 12 to 14 inches, with nine more to complete the range over the next year.

Once the development of the entire line is completed, Kama is set to manufacture 30,000 units per year of the tires to meet the demand from Tatneft group’s vehicles and Russian ATV manufacturers.
