Dynasol “progressing” synthetic rubber expansion project

Santander, Spain – Dynasol Group has issued a short update on its project to increase the production capacity for styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) at its Santander site. 

At the start of 2021, the company presented plans for the SBR expansion at the Spanish site to local authorities in Cantabria.

“We are progressing on the engineering phase of the project as planned,” a company spokeswoman said in a 1 Sept written statement to ERJ. 

As previously, the company did not provide details about the size of the planned synthetic rubber expansion or the project schedule.

Currently, the Santander unit has a capacity of 120 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of SBS and SEBS, and has more than 400 direct and indirect employees.

The expansion will reinforce the position of the group as a strategic regional supplier, Felipe Varela, director of Dynasol Group said in the initial announcement. 

“This gives us sustainability in the face of what will be the post-pandemic and will allow us to be a more present competitor in Europe from Cantabria,” Varela commented. 

Dynasol, a joint venture between KUO and Repsol, claims to be a world leader in the synthetic rubber and rubber chemical markets with revenues of around €600 million and a production capacity of 500ktpa.
