Synthetic rubber output increases over three-month period, according to latest ACC data
Washington – The US chemical production regional index (CPRI) rose 1.1% in July following a 3.5% gain in June and a 5.5% rebound in May, according to the American Chemistry Council (ACC).
During July, chemical output rose in all regions, reflecting continued demand for chemistry products, said ACC in a 24 Aug statement.
The CPRI is measured as a three-month moving average (3MMA).
Chemical production, according to ACC, was mixed in July (3MMA), with growth in a number of products including synthetic rubber, speciality chemicals, organic chemicals, adhesives and coatings.
These gains were offset by weakness in manufactured fibres and consumer products, it added.
Compared with July 2020, chemical production rose sharply by 7.2% with growth posted across all regions.
Manufacturing activity, an important indicator for chemical demand, continued to expand in July, posting a 0.7% 3MMA growth following a 0.2% gain in June.
The trend in manufacturing production was mixed, with gains in sectors including rubber & plastic products, tires, motor vehicles and parts, aerospace and machinery.
