For the third month in a row, country posts higher export figures compared to pre-pandemic levels
Beijing – China's exports of ‘new rubber tires’ in May 2021 reached 47 million units, posting a 57% rise from the same month a year ago, official state figures show.
The value of exports in May as presented in US dollars surged 57% year on year, to $1.2 billion, said China’s General Administration of Customs.
This is the third month in a row that the country has posted higher export figures compared to pre-pandemic levels. In May 2019 China exported 45 million units tires, worth $856 million.
Total weight of tire exports in May shot up by 44% on the previous year, to 520,000 tonnes.
China exported 236 million units tires over the first five months of 2021, representing a 48% rise from a year ago.
Export value leapt 41% from the same period in 2020, to $6.4 billion. Volumes in tonnage rose by 38% to 2.8 million tonnes.
Overall tire production rose 16% in to 78 million units tires during the month.
Production over the first five months totaled 376 million units, up 35% from the same period in 2020, said China’s National Bureau of Statistics.
