US to keep import duties on tires from China

Washington – The US International Trade Commission (USITC) has voted to maintain antidumping and countervailing duties on imports of passenger vehicle and light truck tires from China.

Revoking the existing measures “would be likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury within a reasonably foreseeable time,” USITC announced 26 Jan. 

Four commission senior officials voted for and one against the action under a review of anti-dumping or countervailing measures – as required after five years by an international agreement.

In 2015, the US imposed anti-dumping duties, depending on manufacturer, of between 14% and 88% and countervailing duties of between 21% and 101% on Chinese tire imports.

The US initiated ‘expedited’ reviews of measures against passenger vehicle and light truck tires from China on 1 July 2020.
