General Silicones invests to meet surge in medical orders

Hsinchu, Taiwan – Silicone rubber products maker General Silicones has seen a 65% rise in demand for its product supplied to the medical industry in the first half of 2020

In response, the Taiwan-based trading and manufacturing company has invested in new manufacturing capacity to meet the surge in orders, largely from the US and Europe.

New equipment, including liquid silicone rubber (LSR) injection moulding machines, is helping General Silicones to ramp up production and accelerate delivery throughout its global network.

General Silicones also supplies the automotive, consumer products, electronics and IT sectors, but said “the urgent situation worldwide, with a massive increase in medical activity, has taken centre stage this year.” 

In particular, the company is facing a dramatic increase in demand for critical silicone parts needed for respiratory assistance equipment, research and work safety, said its 27 Aug statement.

Typically, these products silicone scalpel mats, pin mats, tubing, breathing masks and bags, medical membrane keypads, nebuliser plugs and O-rings.

"Obviously, we want to do what we can help, both from the point of view of a business and also to assist doctors and patients all over the world," said Michael Lin, President and CEO of GS.

"We've invested in new manufacturing equipment so we can deliver vital supplies where they are most needed even more quickly,” added Lin.
