New Perl-Besch facility to more than double company’s recycling capacity to 22ktpa
Dillingen, Germany – Pyrum Innovations AG is set to break ground on its second, and largest, end-of-life tire (ELT) pyrolysis plant in Perl-Besch, Germany on 14 Nov, the tire recycler announced 16 Oct.
Set for commissioning in 2027, the site, near the border of Germany, France and Luxembourg, will have the capacity to process 22 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of ELTs and will be fully owned and operated by Pyrum.
According to CEO Pascal Klein, all legal and planning hurdles in the way of the project have now been cleared.
Furthermore, Pyrum said lessons learned from the expansion of its flagship plant in Dillingen have been incorporated into the design to shorten construction time and speed up commissioning.
The €25 million project will cover an area of about 25,000 sq.m. and include a shredder unit, three “latest generation” Pyrum reactors, a power plant and a grinding and pelletising line.
The Perl-Besch location on the Moselle River offers direct access to waterways, rail and motorway links for efficient transport of scrap tires and recovered materials across Europe.
Funding for the project includes part of a €25 million credit line agreed with BASF at the end of 2023 and a term sheet from “a major European bank” covering about 70% of the total investment, subject to final approvals.
Discussions with Saarland authorities over land development costs and a possible state guarantee are ongoing.
Pyrum currently operates an ELT pyrolysis plant in Dillingen, which was recently expanded to reach a processing capacity of 20ktpa.
The new German facility will double Pyrum's overall ELT processing capacity.
