Tokyo—Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd has achieved its target of planting 500,000 trees under its ‘Yokohama Forever Forest’ project by 2017 – the 100th anniversary of Company’s founding.
Launched in 2007, the global tree-planting project involved Yokohama manufacturing sites, sales offices, and related facilities in Japan and overseas.
The environmental initiative achieved the milestone on 14 Sept with the planting of a commemorative tree at the Japanese company’s Hiratsuka Factory, the company said 20 Sept.
In its statement, Yokohama said it would build on the project by continuing to plant trees, providing saplings to various regions, promoting bird-watching events, and monitoring CO2 absorption amounts.
The project’s goals include increasing environmental awareness, decelerating global warming, disaster prevention, establishing conservation forests, and preserving biodiversity.
