Trelleborg publishes Corporate responsibility report 2009

Stockholm, Sweden -- Trelleborg AB has published its annual corporate social responsibility report for 2009. Among the highlights are an improvement in energy efficiency, less waste and less water consumption, in proportion to sales for the year.
Ther company said it consumed 1288 GWh of electricity in 2009, down from 1521 GWh the previous year, which represents a 2.2 percent reduction relative to sales. The company aims to decrease the 2008 figure by 10 percent by 2011, in proportion to sales.
Trelleborg produced 59 400 tonnes of waste in 2009, down from 75 500 tonnes in 2008, which represented a 9 percent decrease in proportion to sales. The company aims to reduce waste at its ten largest plants by 10 percent in proportion to sales, by 2011.
The company said emissions fell to 1256 tonnes compared to 1375 tonnes in 2008. While this is a decrease in absolute terms, the figure increased in proportion to sales in 2009
Water consumption also declined significantly, to 2.5 million cubic metres from 3.9, which represents a 26 percent decline in proprtion to sales, excedding te conpany's target for 2011. Trelleborg said comprehensive recycling projects in such facilities as Tivoli and Ersmark have generated significant results.
