CGT Michelin voices criticism over planned job cuts, demands transparency
Clermont-Ferrand – Trade union CGT Michelin has refused to take part in Michelin’s proposed “Industry France 2030” working group, citing an ‘unacceptable confidentiality requirement’.
According to a 9 July CGT release, Michelin invited union delegates to take part in the talks but asked them to commit to keeping meeting discussions confidential.
The union argued that the move would stop it from reporting back to employees, who would be most affected by Michelin’s restructuring plans.
The Industry France 2030 initiative is linked to Michelin plans to implement significant cuts to its workforce in France and abroad.
In addition to ongoing plant closures in Cholet and Vannes, CGT said the group has announced 150 job cuts in Troyes, France as well as two factory closures in Mexico and Brazil by the yearend.
“The CGT has no secrets from workers and will not join this working group if it cannot communicate openly,” the union emphasised.
