DATL says cross-ply tyres offer better foreign-object damage resistance
ERJ staff report (DS)
Birmingham, UK -- Dunlop Aircraft Tyres Ltd (DATL) is breaking the recent trend of radialisation by supplying cross-ply tyres to the new Airbus Military A400M. DATL said the aircraft is likely to be operated on semi and unprepared airstrips, so it is supplying cross-ply tyres which are more suited to these conditions.
DATL said cross-ply tyres offer better protection against foreign object damage (FOD), but also that the tyres use, "advanced materials designed to give improved protection in the tread area."
More than 180 Airbus Military A400M transport aircraft have been ordered by Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Spain, Turkey and the UK.
