Michelin to provide full tyre maintenance service to Chinese mine operator
ERJ staff report (DS)
Pingshuo, China -- Michelin and China Coal Pingshuo, China's largest surface coal mine, signed a three-year renewable contract earlier this month in Clermont Ferrand for the provision of a full tyre maintenance service at the mine tyre depot. The service began on 11 July, the day after the contract was signed.
China Coal Pingshuo has contracted with Michelin to provide and maintain 53/80R63-size tyres for the Komatsu 930E trucks that it operates in the mine. The company is China's leading producer of coal from open-pit mines, having produced 73 million tonnes in 2007.
Michelin claims to be the leader in the Chinese market for giant 63-inch tyres. Previously, Michelin had signed a tyre supply contract with Pingshuo in May 2007. In May 2008, the same customer chose Michelin as its 2007 Supplier of the Year from a list of 186 companies.
Michelin said The goal of the service contract is to optimize conditions of use for the 63-inch tires fitted on vehicles operated in the mine. To achieve this goal, specialized Michelin technicians, in cooperation with teams from China Coal Pingshuo, will manage the service shop, where tires will be mounted, dismounted and repaired, tire pressure will be checked and maintained at the right level, and other operations will be carried out to ensure that tires are used in the best possible conditions.
