Firestone Natural Rubber to help ship humanitarian aid to Liberia
Indianapolis, Indiana -- Firestone Natural Rubber Company, which runs a rubber plantation in Liberia, said it would start transporting humanitarian materials from charitable organisations to the war-torn West African country.
The company said it would reserve space on its ships for the rest of this year for containers filled with relief goods and other donated cargo to Monrovia in Liberia.
"We recognised that as great as our own need is for materials and equipment to rebuild our operation's infrastructure, the humanitarian need is even greater," Firestone Natural Rubber Company president Dan Adomitis said.
The company, which has had a presence in Liberia since 1926, operates a 118000 acre (47755 ha) rubber growing and processing facility, the biggest in the world, and employs approximately 6000 workers who harvest and process natural rubber and latex.
