Goodyear introduces new technology, sealant-filled truck tyres
AKRON (Jan. 17)--Goodyear has developed a new commercial tire technology with a built-in sealant that instantly repairs truck tire punctures.
The new technology, called DuraSeal, has been installed on two new mixed-service products, the Unisteel G287 MSA mixed service tire and the Unisteel G288 MSA off-road tire. Goodyear's new tires are aimed at vehicles used in the waste and construction industries. The sealant built into the casing of the tires allows truck drivers to continue operating after a puncture, Goodyear said. The tire can remain in use until it is retread.
The DuraSeal technology, which maintains its sealing capability even after it is repaired, uses a yellow, gel-like rubber compound that is designed to instantly seal punctures up to ¼-inch in the tread area, according to a company spokeswoman. Once a nail punctures a tire, the compound gravitates to the nail and fills the puncture, she said.
