Third overseas production base to have capacity to manufacture 6.8m PCR and TBR tires annually
Wuxi, China – Jiangsu General Science Technology is planning to invest up to $295 million (€266 million) in a new tire manufacturing facility in Egypt.
The Chinese tire maker said in a 30 Oct stock-exchange filing that the proposed plant would be located in the Sokhna industrial zone, within Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone.
The facility will have annual capacity for 6 million semi-steel radial passenger car tires and 800,000 all-steel radial truck and bus tires.
The project, approved by General Science's board on 29 Oct, will be developed through a proposed local subsidiary, General Rubber (Egypt).
The company expects construction to take 36 months, but did not specify a starting date.
Once operational, the plant is projected to generate annual revenue of CNY2 billion and net profit of CNY204 million, according to the company's feasibility estimates.
General Science described the project as part of its strategy to expand overseas production and strengthen access to international markets.
Egypt will become the manufacturer's third overseas production base, following investments in Thailand and Cambodia.
The project remains subject to regulatory approvals in China and Egypt.
